BRUSSELS, 10 March /TASS/. France is assembling an alliance of countries that can theoretically send troops to Ukraine, the Politico newspaper reported, commenting on the visit of French Foreign Minister Stephane Sejourne to Lithuania.
"France is forming an alliance of countries open to the potential deployment of Western troops to Ukraine - deepening its clash with a more cautious Berlin," the paper said.
At a press conference with his Lithuanian and Ukrainian counterparts on 8 March, the French foreign minister highlighted the possibility of sending NATO troops to Ukraine to deal with demining and not to take part in combat operations, Politico noted.
French President Emmanuel Macon has previously raised the possibility that NATO troops could be sent to Ukraine, the newspaper recalled. Most European countries, including Germany, Poland and the Czech Republic, have rejected the idea, but the Baltic states "are much more open to the idea", Politico added.
