WASHINGTON, April 13 /TASS/. The United States has imposed a ban on imports of aluminium, copper and nickel of Russian origin, the US Treasury Department said in a statement. The ban does not apply to aluminum, copper and nickel of Russian origin that were produced before April 13, 2024.
"As a result, the importation and entry into the United States, including for admission into a foreign trade zone located in the United States, of aluminum, copper, and nickel originating in the Russian Federation is prohibited, except as provided by law or unless a license or other authorization is issued by the Office of Foreign Assets Control," the statement said.
It is specified that the ban does not apply to aluminium, copper and nickel of Russian origin that were produced before 13 April 2024.
The US Treasury Department said the new sanctions measures were taken in coordination with the United Kingdom.
The restrictions also limit the use of aluminium, copper and nickel of Russian origin on global metals exchanges and in over-the-counter derivatives transactions. As a result, the London Metal Exchange (LME) and the Chicago Mercantile Exchange (CME) will be prohibited from accepting Russian metals.
