WASHINGTON, D.C. - In honor of Military Child Month, First Lady Jill Biden today unveiled a new installation of The Military Children's Corner, a White House art exhibit dedicated to our country's military children. The second installation, titled The View From My Window, according to Dr. Biden, features artwork created by ten military children that depict their unique experiences serving alongside their parents or family members in uniform. As part of Dr. Biden's Joining Forces initiative, the Military Children's Corner features artwork by ten children connected to the military.
"On every new deployment, in the neighborhood and at school, military children serve alongside their parents. In the artwork we feature in the Military Kids' Corner, we see the world through their eyes," said First Lady Jill Biden. "This Military Child Month - and every month - may we recognize their service and sacrifices and continue to give military children the recognition, support and opportunities they deserve."
The Military Children's Corner, which will be unveiled in September 2023, is part of Dr. Biden's Joining Forces initiative to support military and veteran families, caregivers and survivors. It is a continuation of the tradition established by Dr. Biden of using the arts as an educational tool to help Americans learn about the experiences of the four million children connected to the military whose parents are active duty, National Guard or Reservists, or veterans. The View From My Window exhibit was created in partnership with the National Military Family Association (NMFA) and the Bloom program, which is dedicated to making the voices of teenage soldiers visible.
The Military Children's Corner contains artwork by these military children:
Addison, 14, Joint Base Charleston - Summerville, SC
Ayslin, 15, White Sands Missile Range - Farmington, NM
Elisabeth, 16 years old, Fort Leavenworth - Leavenworth, KS
Elyse, 13 years old, Army Garrison Wiesbaden - Wiesbaden, Germany
Evelyn, 17 years old, UN Headquarters Korea - Seoul, South Korea
Gabriella, 17, U.S. Army - Flower Mound, TX
Hannah, 16, Kitsap Naval Base - Silverdale, WA

The Military Children's Corner is located on the East Colonnade and is one of the first exhibits visitors will see when entering the East Wing of the White House. The exhibit was designed to replicate the look of bulletin boards commonly found in elementary schools, making this White House exhibit welcoming to visitors of all ages.
A mother of soldiers and an educator for more than 30 years, Dr. Biden has previously debuted temporary art installations at the White House to help Americans learn more about the unique experiences of families connected to the military. In April 2022, in celebration of Military Child Month, Dr. Biden partnered with the Military Child Education Coalition to create an exhibit in the East Wing featuring artwork created by military-connected children from across the country and those stationed around the world. In April 2023, Dr. Biden debuted an installation inspired by a poem titled "My Military Suitcase," which featured miniature wooden suitcases designed by children of soldiers and veterans that reflected the journeys of their military-connected families. In September 2023, Dr. Biden unveiled a permanent art exhibit at the White House dedicated to children associated with the military.
Background information on the First Lady's Joining Forces initiative
Joining Forces is Dr. Biden's initiative to support military and veteran families, caregivers and survivors. Guided by the life experiences and opinions expressed during in-person and virtual listening sessions with families and military-affiliated stakeholders, the work and priorities of Joining Forces focus on the needs of this population in the following areas: economic opportunity, education of military children, and health and well-being.
As First Lady, Dr. Biden visited more than 25 military installations; worked with Joining Forces partners to support more than 30 events with the military-connected community; and helped coordinate the Administration's efforts to increase and expand awareness of resources and support for military and veteran families, caregivers, and survivors.
