Germany legalises recreational cannabis

The German government on Monday legalised the recreational use of cannabis with some reservations. At midnight, crowds gathered at the iconic Brandenburg Gate to "light up" the change in the law that means recreational cannabis use is now allowed in Germany. Health Minister Karl Lauterbach's claims the legalisation will stop the black market, while opposition conservatives have warned of the impact legalising the drug will have on people's lives.
