BUDAPEST, Friday April 19, 2024 (MTI) - Let us make a clear commitment: as long as there is a national government at the head of the country, Hungary will not enter the Russia-Ukraine war on anyone's side. But if it were not for Fidesz and the KDNP, if the government were not in the hands of national forces, Hungary would already be neck-deep in war, Prime Minister Viktor Orbán said on Friday at the opening of Fidesz and KDNP's election campaign for the European Parliament in Millenáris.
The prime minister pointed out that pro-war governments, Brussels bureaucrats and George Soros' network are sending millions of dollars to the pro-war left in Budapest. They make no secret of the fact that they want a change of government at the behest of their clients. They want a pro-war government instead of a pro-promotion government, a puppet government subordinate to Brussels and Washington instead of a national government, he stressed.
He added: Let's not abandon Hungary, we must fight!
We must defend the peace and security of the Hungarian people. We must protect our economic achievements. We must protect our families and especially our children. To make Brussels understand: no migration, no gender, no war! This is written in the election manifesto we are issuing today," said Viktor Orbán, who presented the document at the end of his speech.
The Fidesz President began his speech by saying: "We have won every European election for twenty years, we are the most successful political community in Hungary and Europe, we cannot set ourselves a smaller goal, I suggest we win this one too!" He added that the reason why their opponents have not been able to win the trust of the people in ten and a half years is that they have gambled with their honour and forgotten humility. He stressed that winning elections is only a means to serve the people and the ruling parties have been doing so for the past 14 years.
He said that maintaining and regaining trust is a difficult task, so if we want to win, we have to face who we are: we are the ones who rebuilt the Hungarian economy, which Gyurcsány's left had left bankrupt. He pointed out that there are one million more people working in Hungary today and twice as many gypsies as there were under Gyurcsány. It was we who gave the Roma jobs. We are counting on them even now in this electoral struggle.
He stressed that the ruling parties have managed to raise the minimum wage three and a half times compared to the period of the left-wing government, triple the average wage, increase the average pension and return the 13th pension that the left took away from pensioners. "It is we who have halved the number of Hungarians living in deep poverty, and it is we who will eradicate the poverty in Hungary left behind by the left," he said.
He added that no leftist lies or political indulgences can rewrite reality. He pointed out that in 2010 the Hungarian economy was roughly half the size it is today, which means that in 14 years the Hungarian economy has almost doubled. While in 2010 Hungarians had three million cars, today they have more than 4 200 000, and household savings have increased five and a half times from 1 000 billion forints to 5 500 billion forints.
"The truth is that Hungarians are better off today than they were during the Gyurcsány era, although not as well off as they would have liked," said Orbán, who said the people know this and that is why they want Fidesz-KDNP to continue in every election.
"The outlook for the Hungarian economy is encouraging, let's not be disingenuous. With this kind of work behind us, we are clear favourites in these elections," he said.
He also said that the Brussels leadership must go, they do not deserve another chance, Brussels needs change. He added that Hungary's results are now under threat from Europe and Brussels. "The strong, peaceful, free and happy Europe that we love so much and that we have longed for all our lives under communism is crumbling before our eyes," he said.
He said that Brussels is in big trouble, its leadership is bankrupt. The European economy is in decline, the Green Deal is a disaster, Ukrainian grain is destroying European farmers, migrants are pouring across the border, crime is rising, violence is increasing. Children want to be re-educated and handed over to gender activists," he said.
In Brussels, change does not happen by itself, "we have to do it". We must occupy Brussels, push aside the Brussels bureaucrats and "take matters into our own hands". If we do not do this, not only Europe but also we Hungarians will pay a heavy price for the incompetence and inertia of Brussels' leaders, Orbán said.
He recalled that he had launched a campaign in Brussels earlier this week but the rally had been banned. He described the text of the ban, which stated that the event could not take place because it was to bring together academics, cultural and political leaders with nationally conservative views and because these people belonged to the religious right. The past and future of conservatism are inextricably linked to the idea of nationhood, the principle of national independence and the revival of unique national traditions," he quoted from the justification.
According to the Prime Minister, only the final resolution of the case was more scandalous: after two judges rejected the appeal and the Belgian Prime Minister published a correct assessment of the situation, a third judge upheld the appeal and the conference could continue. That's the rule of law there, that's the rule of law when you're the West and they're lecturing us," he said.
Orbán said that Europe today is teetering on the line between repression and freedom and that the current elections will decide which way it will move.
"It seems the task is ours to save freedom in Brussels and Budapest," he said.
There is a pro-war majority in Brussels today, there is a war mood in Europe and politics is dominated by the logic of war, the prime minister said.
Orbán said that war preparations are underway on all sides and the NATO Secretary General wants to set up a NATO-Ukraine mission.
The Prime Minister stressed that the European leaders were already involved in the war, they perceive the war as their own and are waging it as their own.
He recalled that at first it was just about sending helmets, then came sanctions - first not energy, then energy, then arms - first firearms, then tanks and planes - and then financial aid. More and more tens of billions, and now we are somewhere near a hundred billion euros," he added.
"Money, paripa, weapons", but the situation is not getting better, in fact it is getting worse, and we are one step away from the West sending troops to Ukraine, Orbán said.
According to the Prime Minister, this is a vortex of war that could drag Europe into the abyss. He said that Brussels is playing with fire and what it is doing is tempting God. The Prime Minister noted that in the beginning, the world wars were never called world wars, they were called the Third Balkan War, the Molotov-Ribbentrop Pact, the partition of Poland, and then it ended with two world wars.
"We Hungarians know what war is, we have been in it often enough," Viktor Orbán said. He is therefore convinced that Hungary must not get involved in this war.
It is not our war, we do not want a war and we do not want Hungary to become the plaything of the great powers again. That is why we must stand firm for peace, at home, in Brussels, in Washington, in the UN and in NATO.
