In recent days, President Petr Pavel visited the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan. The official visit included meetings with King Abdallah II and other senior officials of the country. Jordan appreciated the humanitarian aid brought by the President of the Republic for further distribution to civilians in Gaza.
"At the airport we handed over a shipment of humanitarian aid, just over a ton of powdered milk. It is a quantity that can cover the needs of several thousand children for several weeks. I am very happy that it was quickly organized and processed. The shipment has been handed over to the Jordanian side, which will distribute it to the Gaza Strip so that it reaches the people who need it as soon as possible," President Pavel said of the humanitarian aid delivery.
In addition to the current situation in the Middle East, the topics of the joint talks included cooperation between the Czech Republic and Jordan in the fields of health, defence, energy and science. For this reason, the President was accompanied by a business and academic delegation.
On Tuesday, 28 May, the President of the Republic visited two hospitals. In the first one, the MEDEVAC programme, which has been running in Jordan since 2013, when the war in Syria and the related refugee crisis reached its peak. The President met with Czech ophthalmologists who perform approximately 400 eye surgeries in the local facility over the course of a week. In the second hospital, representatives of the accompanying companies presented the equipment for the neonatology department, which was presented in the form of a so-called restricted cash donation. At the end of the official programme of the first day, the President also visited the Jordan Design and Development Bureau, an armaments company, where there is a long-standing successful cooperation with the Czech company TATRA Trucks.
On Wednesday 29 May, the President of the Republic was welcomed at the Royal Palace by King Abdullah II and Crown Prince Hussein. Subsequently, the President of the Republic also received an official welcome from the highest representatives of the Government, the Senate and the House of Representatives of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan.
"With the King and the Crown Prince, we discussed at the international level, first of all, the problem in Gaza and how to deal with the end of the conflict and the subsequent humanitarian aid. But we also talked about the conflict in Ukraine, because from his point of view this conflict also affects global security and therefore security here in the region. Jordan sees the Czech Republic as a close partner, and for us Jordan is the most stable country in the region that we can count on as a reliable partner in the long term." President Pavel said at the end of the visit.
