PARIS, 7 June. /TASS/. The US will provide Ukraine with a new aid package worth $225 million to restore the country's energy capacity, US President Joe Biden said. The U.S. president also apologized to Volodymyr Zelensky for the delay of the large aid package, which has been delayed for several months in Congress.
"I announced six packages of significant funding. Today, I am also signing another $225 million package to help you rebuild your electricity grid," the US leader, who is visiting France, said during a meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.
Biden also apologised to Zelensky for the delay of a large aid package that had been held up in Congress for several months.
"I apologize for the weeks when we didn't know what was going to pass in terms of funding because we had trouble passing the bill we were supposed to pass," the US president said.
Biden reiterated his support for Ukraine and pledged that the US would not leave Kiev.
The Associated Press previously reported that the $225 million aid package could include HIMARS munitions. Officials also said it would include missiles for Hawk air defense systems, Stinger anti-aircraft missile systems, Javelin anti-tank missile systems, armored vehicles, trailers, patrol boats, explosives and spare parts.
In late April, Biden signed a package of bills to resume arms shipments to Israel, Ukraine and Taiwan worth $95 billion, $61 billion of which was earmarked for Kiev. Immediately afterwards, the Pentagon announced that it was sending $1 billion worth of weapons and equipment to Ukraine. Washington then allocated another $400 million worth of weapons to Kiev.
Russian President Vladimir Putin has repeatedly stated that the supply of new weapons to Ukraine will not change the situation on the front, but will only prolong the conflict.
