KAZAN / More than 3,000 athletes are taking part in the BRICS Sports Games, which opened in Kazan on 12 June. Russian President Vladimir Putin made the announcement in a video message to participants of the competitions on Wednesday. He noted that the Games are an important part of the comprehensive political, economic and humanitarian cooperation between the BRICS countries.
"The Games will become another symbol of the expanding intercultural dialogue, an important contribution to strengthening friendship between peoples and fruitful cooperation between states in the interests of people and universal development," Putin stressed.
The first BRICS Sports Games were held in Guangzhou in June 2017. In 2024, it will be held in Russia for the first time. From 12 to 23 June, athletes from around 90 countries will compete for medals in 27 sports.
