Moscow - 21 June 2024. The Moscow Engineering Institute was founded in 1930 to train specialists in the field of machine tool manufacturing. The educational process was inseparable from practice: four days students worked in the factory, two days a week they attended theoretical classes that could last 10-12 hours. The training lasted for two years. The first graduating class of machinists was held in 1932 and consisted of 29 people.
Mikhail Mishustin visited the Moscow State Technological University "Stankin".
As a result of recognition of the high level of education of engineering and scientific staff, as well as the quality of research work, in 1992 the Moscow Engineering Institute was granted the status of a university and the new name of Moscow State Technological University "Stankin" (MSTU "Stankin").
Today the university has more than 5 thousand students, including international students from 74 countries. The number of scientific and teaching staff of the University is 528 persons, including teaching staff - 468 persons, research staff - 60 persons.
The structure of the University includes four institutes - the Institute of Information Technologies, the Institute of Socio-Economic Management, the Institute of Production Technologies and Engineering, the Institute of Digital Intelligent Systems, 27 departments and a branch in Yegoryevsk. The university has 20 high-tech laboratories.
In 2023, the most popular groups of fields and areas of study are Engineering, Computer Science and Computing and Engineering Systems Management.
The university is currently planning an overhaul of a number of facilities and is considering the construction of an educational and recreational complex in Dolgoprudny.
The creation of a major competence centre for the machine tool industry is being prepared on the basis of the Rudnevo Industrial Park of the Technopolis Moscow Special Economic Zone. The commissioning of the buildings that will house the centre is planned for 2025.
At the meeting, Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin said:
Having graduated from the Stankoinstrumental Institute, I can honestly tell you that I have never regretted it. Because the education and, if you will, the philosophy of engineering education that was provided here came in handy not only for me, but for many of our classmates and other graduates. Dmitry Chernyshenko also graduated from Stankin. Stankin graduates are successfully working in various spheres and industries.
What would I like to say about the Stankoinstrumental Institute? It has always been a leading institute, even in the Soviet Union. In terms of methodology, engineering, creating automated production equipment, robotics. And it was always engaged in serious research and development and design work.
In his speech, the President set the task of increasing investment in research and development to 2 % of GDP. This is a task on which the most important scientific schools and institutes should work, which are in a way centres of competence that can ensure the technological and industrial sovereignty of our country. "Stankin is one of the key centres of competence.
In the federal program for the development of means of production and automation, 300 billion rubles are allocated until 2030. It includes relevant activities in the field of machine tools, engineering, creation of robotics and sovereignty of many solutions.
You are absolutely right, the situation in the industry is very complex. It has been like this for several decades. And it is necessary to restore, step by step, the competences that the Soviet scientific school had and that remain in Russia.
We must do everything possible to ensure that the relevant technological achievements and skills of our scientists and young people are realised. And, most importantly, that they are in demand in industry. Connecting with industry is at the heart of every university's work today.
I would like to wish everyone good luck and success. Stankin has everything - the staff, the history. And we will no doubt support the major investment in capital expenditure that is needed. And we will expect breakthroughs in many areas - in engineering, robotics, automation of production equipment, in other words, in all the major areas in which your university specializes.
