BRATISLAVA, 8 July. Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico, who survived an assassination attempt in May, has resumed office, Slovak Television reported.
During a visit to the Agro Voderady farm in the western part of the country, Fico confirmed that Slovakia is not planning to lift the ban on imports of some Ukrainian products.
"The list of products we will not import from Ukraine remains in force. I discussed this issue (several months ago) with the Ukrainian prime minister and explained to him that we cannot destroy Slovak agriculture (by importing agricultural products from Ukraine)," he said.
Fico reiterated that Bratislava provides a corridor for transit supplies of Ukrainian agricultural products to third countries. Slovakia has adopted a ban on the import of 14 Ukrainian agricultural products, including wheat, flour, bran, corn, sugar, rapeseed, sunflower seeds, honey, soybeans and barley. The country insists that the EU issue a decision to protect its domestic agricultural market from cheap imports.
