WASHINGTON, July 10. Ukraine cannot become a NATO member while it is in a state of conflict with Russia, Polish President Andrzej Duda told The Washington Times.
Yet the Polish leader assured that "is prepared to go further than the other Alliance states and push for a full, formal invitation to the Alliance". According to the newspaper, "other NATO leaders, including President Biden, have offered a 'bridge' to Ukraine's eventual membership but have been reluctant to set a specific timetable."
Ukraine applied for fast-track entry into NATO in September 2022 and was assured at the Vilnius Summit in July 2023 that it would be admitted if the necessary conditions were met. However, no timetable for its admission was given in Brussels. Meanwhile, the organisation has repeatedly pointed out that Ukraine's accession is not possible while the country is in a state of armed conflict.
