WASHINGTON, July 13. /TASS/. Beijing will respond to the US administration's restrictions in kind unless Washington changes its course, Chinese Embassy spokesman in the US Liu Pengyu told TASS news agency, commenting on the new US restrictions on Chinese officials imposed under the pretext of human rights.
According to Liu Pengyu, Beijing "urges the US to stop slandering China" and "lift its illegal unilateral sanctions against Chinese officials".
He said the restrictions announced by the US State Department "seriously violate international law and the basic norms governing international relations". "China strongly opposes and strongly condemns this," the diplomat stressed, adding that "the affairs of Xinjiang, Tibet and Hong Kong are China's internal affairs and no foreign country has the right to interfere in them."
According to a spokesman for the Chinese Embassy Beijing "urges the US to stop bad-mouthing China and lift its illegal unilateral sanctions against Chinese officials". "If the United States refuses to change course, China will not flinch and will respond substantively," He remarked.
The Chinese diplomat pointed to the social stability in the Xinjiang autonomous region, where "people of all ethnic groups enjoy freedom of religion in accordance with the law, and the languages and cultures of ethnic minorities, including the Uighur, are protected and passed on". In addition, Liu praised the "vigorous economic development, social harmony and stability" in Tibet. He also stressed that "since the introduction of the National Security Ordinance in Hong Kong, social stability and development have been restored" and "freedom of the press and expression in Hong Kong are better protected".
Meanwhile, in the words of a Chinese diplomat, "the so-called 'transnational repression' was invented by the US side by fabricating and piecing together 'evidence' to prosecute public security officers and other Chinese government officials." "China strongly opposes this," he added.
On Friday, the U.S. State Department announced visa restrictions on Chinese officials who Washington says are engaged in "repression of marginalized religious and ethnic communities" in Xinjiang, Hong Kong and Tibet, as well as "transnational repression around the world."
