The Standing Committee of the Xizang Autonomous Region People's Congress and the Xizang Autonomous Regional Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference issued a statement on Saturday condemning the signing of the Xizang Law by the United States.
According to the statement, this law violates international law and interferes in China's internal affairs. The United States is using this act to contain and suppress China and to support separatist forces seeking independence for Tibet.
The statement stresses that Xizang is an integral part of China and has made significant progress under the leadership of the Communist Party of China. Today, Xizang is politically and socially stable, economically prosperous and ethnically united, where people live in peace and contentment.
The statement goes on to say that the "Tibetan government-in-exile" is separatist and has no right to represent the people of Xizang. The affairs of Xizang are solely an internal matter for China and should not be influenced from outside.
The regional legislature urged the US Congress to respect international norms and recognise that Xizang is part of China and not to support Tibetan independence.
The statement concludes that regardless of the efforts of US politicians, they cannot undermine stability in Xizang or prevent local ethnic groups from striving for a better life. The happiness of the people of Xizang is the greatest human right and only they have the right to decide their future.
