The 2024 rediscovery of the Silk Road in Beijing opened in the evening of 21 October in the Chinese capital. The event, with the theme "Explore the Modernised City of Opportunity", welcomed prominent international influencers from Albania, Brazil, Ethiopia, Kazakhstan, Malaysia, Russia, Serbia, Tajikistan, Thailand, Turkey, the United States and Uzbekistan to embark on a journey of discovery in Beijing.
Since 2016, ten consecutive editions of Rediscovering the Silk Road in Beijing have been held, with a total of 125 international influencers from 51 countries participating in the Belt and Road Initiative.
Mukhammad Obidov, editor-in-chief of the Uzbek National News Agency and chairman of the Fergana Journalists Association, spoke of the growing interest of Uzbeks in neighboring countries, especially China, and suggested the creation of an alliance of Central Asian and Chinese journalists and a unified information platform to help deepen understanding among members of this proposed alliance.
Kanat Sakharyanov, director of Kazakhstan's Atameken TV, said in his speech that Beijing is a city that combines ancient history with the latest technology and that Beijingers can live in harmony with each other through tolerance and mutual respect. Since 2019, Atameken TV has aired more than 20 documentaries on China along with regular news programs such as "On the Silk Road" and "China News" in an effort to strengthen understanding between the two countries.
Lucas Eleuterio Fernandes, a journalist and TV Globo presenter and social media influencer from Brazil, is also a popular social media influencer with 2.1 million followers on Instagram. He began his world tour of China in 2010 and returned 14 years later to find that "China is undergoing a stunning development and transformation". According to Fernandes. "many people still have misconceptions about this country, but I want to say that China is a place that everyone should visit at least once in their lifetime".
This year, the Rediscovery of the Silk Road in Beijing runs from the 21st to the 25th. October, and participants have the opportunity to experience Beijing's unique urban charm, which combines ancient heritage with modern achievements, from a variety of angles and at a number of landmarks, including three major cultural venues in the Beijing Municipal Administrative Center, the ZGC E-Town International Robotics Industrial Park, the GTVerse Center, the Forbidden City, the Olympic Tower, No. 3 Furnace and Big Air Shougang in Shougang Park, and more.
