A prototype of the CR450 high-speed train, which is capable of reaching speeds of 450 km/h, was unveiled in Beijing on Sunday. China thus highlighted advances in operating speed, energy efficiency, interior noise reduction and braking performance.
According to its creator, China State Railway Group Co., Ltd (China Railway), the new CR450 train has reached a test speed of 450 km/h and an operating speed of 400 km/h.
Once in commercial operation, the CR450 is expected to significantly reduce travel times and offer passengers a more efficient and comfortable travel experience. Despite the higher speed, the train provides greater safety through shorter braking distances and improved operational stability.
Energy efficiency has been optimised, with driving resistance reduced by 22 % and overall weight reduced by 10 %.
Passengers can also look forward to a more comfortable journey, as interior noise levels have been reduced by two decibels and passenger space has been increased by four per cent.
The CR450 includes intelligent enhancements in train control, driver interaction, safety monitoring and passenger services, representing a significant leap in technological innovation.
China Railways said production of the prototype began in 2024. The process employed advanced intelligent manufacturing technologies and thorough quality control measures to ensure the successful launch of the CR450 train.
