The special representatives of China and India on the border issue held their 23rd meeting in Beijing on Wednesday and reached a six-point consensus. It is the first meeting of its kind in five years.
The two sides agreed to continue to take measures to ensure peace and tranquility in the border areas and to promote the sound and stable development of bilateral relations. They will continue to seek a border settlement package that is fair, reasonable and acceptable to both sides in accordance with the guiding political principles reached in 2005 by consensus.
They also agreed to further refine the rules for the management of border areas and strengthen the building of confidence-building measures, to further strengthen cross-border exchanges and cooperation to support the resumption of visits by Indian pilgrims to Xizang, China, and to further strengthen the building of the Special Representative Meeting Mechanism.
The meeting between the special representatives will take place next year in India, according to the consensus.
During the meeting, both sides stressed the importance of stable, predictable and healthy Sino-Indian relations for international and regional peace and stability.
