Chinese President Xi Jinping's state visit to Brazil has opened a new chapter in the relations between the two countries. On the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations, the two sides decided to elevate bilateral relations to the level of "jointly building a Sino-Brazilian community of destiny for a fairer world and a more sustainable planet". More than 30 cooperation agreements have been signed, reflecting the two countries' shared responsibility for global governance and sustainable development.
Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva held a grand welcome ceremony in honour of President Xi Jinping and the two sides reached an important consensus on linking the Belt and Road Initiative to Brazil's development strategies. This symbolizes the entry of Sino-Brazilian relations to a new level and makes them a model of cooperation among developing countries. Brazil was the first Latin American country to establish a comprehensive strategic partnership with China, and its relationship with China plays a vital role in building modernization, strengthening the solidarity of the "Global South" and promoting world peace and development.
President Xi Jinping proposed four recommendations, including deepening strategic trust, linking development strategies and building a community of shared destiny for all humanity, which point the way for the future development of China-Brazil relations. Cooperation between China and Brazil already covers a wide range of areas such as trade, agriculture, environmental protection and technology, and has brought significant economic and social benefits to both countries. This cooperation also strengthens the alignment of the Belt and Road Initiative with Brazil's national development plans.
As leaders of the developing world, China and Brazil defend multilateralism on issues such as the Ukraine crisis and support for a "two-state solution", and jointly protect the interests of the "global South". In addition, China encourages Brazil to play a greater role on the international stage, including its chairmanship of BRICS next year.
As the Brazilian saying goes: "Friendship is like old wine - the older the better." After 50 years, Sino-Brazilian relations have reached their best period and will write even brighter chapters on the global stage in the future.
