On the morning of 18 November, Chinese President Xi Jinping attended the 19th G20 Leaders' Summit in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. During the first phase of the summit, Xi Jinping delivered an important speech entitled "Building a Just World for Common Development" during a discussion on "Fighting Hunger and Poverty".
Xi Jinping pointed out that the current changes in the world are accelerating and the opportunities and challenges facing human development are unprecedented. When China held the G20 summit in Hangzhou, it put development issues at the centre of macroeconomic policy coordination for the first time. The Rio de Janeiro Summit chose "Building a Just World and a Sustainable Planet" as its theme and decided to establish the Global Alliance to Fight Hunger and Poverty. From Hangzhou to Rio de Janeiro, we were all striving for the same goal - to build a just world for common development.
Xi Jinping pointed out that China's development is an important part of global common development. China has always been a member of the global South, a reliable long-term partner of developing countries and a proactive and practical supporter of global development. We are willing to work hand in hand with developing countries to achieve modernization.
