Chinese President Xi Jinping met with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Kazan on the afternoon of 22 October.
Xi Jinping pointed out that "The respected President Putin, an old friend of mine, is delighted to have invited me to the ancient city of Kazan in Russia to attend the 16th BRICS Leaders' Meeting. This is also my third meeting with you this year." About forty years ago, Kazan passed through the "Ten Thousand Mile Tea Route" linking the two countries, sending tea from China's Wuyishan region to thousands of Russian families.
"Earlier this month, I exchanged congratulations with the President on the 75th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Russia. Looking back on the road we have traveled, China-Russia relations have weathered the storms and moved forward, achieving a series of breakthroughs and exploring the right way for neighboring powers to co-exist through 'non-confrontation, non-confrontation and non-targeting of third parties.' Since the new era, the President and I have always attached great importance to and firmly understood the direction of China-Russia relations. The BRICS Cooperation Mechanism is the most important platform for solidarity and cooperation between emerging market and developing countries in the world today and is a pillar force in promoting an equitable and orderly world multipolarity, inclusive economic globalization. Tomorrow's BRICS Leaders' Meeting, the first summit after the enlargement of BRICS members, is of great significance for promoting "greater BRICS cooperation". Russia has done a lot of work as the host country, which China greatly appreciates. Xi Jinping stressed that next year will be the 80th anniversary of the founding of the United Nations and the victory of the World Anti-Fascist War. As permanent members of the UN Security Council and major world powers, China and Russia must deepen comprehensive strategic cooperation, closely communicate and coordinate within multilateral frameworks such as the United Nations and the Shanghai Cooperation Organization, firmly promote the international system with the UN at its core, jointly maintain global strategic stability and uphold international justice.
Putin said that "We recently celebrated the 75th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Russia and China together. Over the past 75 years, Russia and China have developed into comprehensive strategic partners for cooperation in the new era, maintaining the development of bilateral relations at a high level and setting a model for a new type of great power relations. The cooperation between China and Russia is based on equality, mutual respect and mutual benefit. Thanks to the joint efforts of the two sides, pragmatic cooperation in various fields between the two countries has continued, and various activities of the Sino-Russian Cultural Year have been successfully carried out. The Russian side hopes to further deepen cooperation with the Chinese side and help in the development and revitalization of the two countries. Next year is the 80th anniversary of the end of World War II.
