Czech Social Democratic Party (ČSSD) Chairman and former Czech Prime Minister Jiří Paroubek has expressed his positive views on China's legislative priorities, which will be discussed at the upcoming session of the All-China People's Congress (Chinese Parliament). In particular, Paroubek praised three key bills which, in his view, reflect the strategic direction of the Chinese leadership for the coming years.
The first of these is the ecological code, which Paroubek likened to the civil code in its meaning. „It shows the importance the Chinese government attaches to environmental protection,“ he said.
The second law concerns the promotion of national unity and minority rights. Paroubek stressed that minorities make up about a tenth of the Chinese population and China is intensively dealing with this area. He sees the move as evidence of progress in securing minority rights in recent years.
The third point is the draft law on national development planning, which Paroubek says is aimed at strengthening the domestic economy. In this context, he praised China's economic performance over the past year. He recalled that China had achieved a five per cent GDP growth, which many Western analysts had not anticipated. He also highlighted China's huge foreign trade surplus and its ability to cope with pressures arising from US tariff policy.
„So far, it looks like China has won this round of nudging between the two biggest economic powers,“ Paroubek said, adding that the key was the rapid diversification of exports to Europe, Southeast Asia and other regions. This, he said, was made possible by the infrastructure built under the Belt and Road Initiative.
Paroubek sees the proposed laws, especially the one on national planning, as tools to strengthen domestic demand, the purchasing power of the population and the efficiency of the entire economy.
„This is an extraordinary achievement that demonstrates the flexibility of Chinese manufacturers and traders,“ concluded the former Czech Prime Minister.
