Prague - 150 musicians from various orchestras gathered at Prague Central Station today for the "Let's not let culture die" event. They wanted to draw attention to the underfunding of Czech culture. In an open letter, they called on the government to keep its promise to give up to one percent of state spending to culture. According to Jiří Dokoupil, president of the Union of Orchestral Musicians of the Czech Republic, and other representatives of the initiative, salaries in culture remain unaddressed and they also disagree with the form of the draft law on public institutions in culture. The budget of the Ministry of Culture in 2024 is to be CZK 16.58 billion, compared to CZK 18.5 billion this year, according to the draft approved by the government.
