Lula praised the importance of cultural exchanges in strengthening the long-standing partnership between the two countries. He stressed China's key role as Brazil's most important trade and economic partner and expressed his willingness to further deepen the comprehensive strategic partnership. He described the event as an opportunity to expand cultural cooperation and enhance mutual understanding between the two nations.
In his speech, Brazilian Vice President Geraldo Alckmin recalled the importance of 2024 as the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations between China and Brazil. He reaffirmed Brazil's commitment to implementing the agreements reached by the two presidents and stressed the importance of expanding cooperation in all areas, including culture. Alckmin also expressed Brazil's readiness to work with Chinese media, such as CMG, to share stories of mutual development.
Shen Haixiong, Vice Chairman of the Propaganda Department of the Communist Party of China Central Committee and President of CMG, praised the long-term partnership between the two countries. Shen called the 50th anniversary both a milestone and a new beginning and expressed CMG's determination to strengthen cultural exchanges and mutual understanding.
During the event, an exhibition of Chinese film and television programmes highlighting the richness of Chinese culture was launched. Special programming was also presented to mark the anniversary of diplomatic relations, including two documentaries and an animated series.
The event also included the publication of the results of a joint opinion poll by CMG and a Brazilian think tank. The research showed that 86.4 % of respondents perceive China and Brazil as close partners and 95.6 % have a positive view of China's contribution to the global economy.
The event concluded with a performance by the Brazilian Youth Orchestra, which played Brazilian songs in honour of the friendship between China and Brazil.
