During the National Day celebrations, people went in large numbers to cities and places rich in cultural heritage. According to data from Trip.com, four of the top five most searched topics were culture-related, including traveling to sights mentioned in school textbooks, museum visits, music festivals and study tours.
Tourism has also been influenced by movies and video games. For example, the city of Altay in Xinjiang attracted fans of the TV series "To the Wonder" and Shanxi province became a popular destination thanks to the game "Black Myth: Wukong".
Visits to the museums skyrocketed, with the Sanxingdui Museum in Sichuan Province offering the first VR experience of an archaeological site, leading to a sell-out. This interest in culture reflects a growing confidence in national identity and a love of traditional Chinese culture.
