This year's Spring Festival Gala, an annual celebration produced and broadcast by China Media Group, began on Tuesday, the eve of Chinese New Year, when Chinese around the world celebrated the Spring Festival, China's most important holiday centered on family gatherings.
This festival, known as "Chunwan", was the first since the Chinese Spring Festival was inscribed on UNESCO's Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity. It not only continued the tradition of a must-watch show for Chinese families on Chinese New Year's Eve since 1983, but also reached new heights in showcasing human warmth and cultural heritage.
The gala offered a mix of performances - from music, comedy and traditional arts such as opera and martial arts to spectacular acts such as magic and acrobatics. This year, for the fourth year, a vertical broadcast format, optimised for mobile devices, was also available. This format has gained considerable popularity, with 130 million, 190 million and 420 million views in the previous three years.
