China and the World Health Organization (WHO) will hold a global conference on traditional medicine in Beijing on December 3 and 4, it was announced at a press briefing on Thursday.
In recent years, people's health awareness and lifestyles have changed, as have medical models, leading to an increasing demand for traditional medicine. The benefits of traditional medicine in protecting public health and preventing serious chronic and infectious diseases are receiving increasing attention.
In this context, the conference will focus on the theme of diversity, heritage and innovation of traditional medicine for the benefit of the world. According to the organisers, it will discuss scientific research, education and digital and intelligent applications of traditional medicine.
The organisers added that heads of international organisations, government officials of several countries and ambassadors to China, as well as medical experts, scientists and entrepreneurs, were invited to the conference. Some 1,200 people are expected to attend the opening ceremony.
Chinese organizers include the Beijing Municipal Government, the National Health Commission and the National Administration of Traditional Chinese Medicine.
