COMMENTARY
Dynamo tried to play strong hockey from the first minutes. But the first big chance of the game came when Canadian forward Benjamin Tardif found himself face-to-face with Tomas Vomacka after an erratic bounce off the rim. The Pardubice defenseman came out the winner of the duel and made a great save to keep the score 0:0. But not for long. Kärpät played a power play after less than 90 seconds, which Lukáš Sedlák started with a nice individual action and a dangerous shot, but the Finnish team opened the scoring. With a sharp and very accurate shot from the left circle, winger Patrik Virta split the net and sent his team into the lead. But at 07:03 Martin Kaut equalized the game when he cleverly put the puck into the net from an impossible angle and hit goalie Tomi Karhunen on the concrete.
The second period was tactically tied from both teams' point of view, and it was only in its last minutes that the East started to attack and attack actively again. In the 39th minute, Jan Mandat did a great job, first threatening the Oulu goal with a shot and then creating a great opportunity for Tomáš Vondráček. However, the thirty-three year old Trebic native did not secure the lead with his powerful shot from the first. Forty seconds before the second siren, Martin Kaut hit the top bar and the score remained tied.
In the 49th minute, Lukáš Sedlák got out of the grip of two defenders in the slot and finished with his backhand, but unfortunately the puck did not go into the net. At 51:46, Tomas Vondracek was sent off for hitting the boards and Kärpät managed to capitalize on the five-minute power play with one goal. The goal was scored by Teemu Turunen, who beat Tomas Vomacka with a shot from the right circle to the back post. The Dynamo, however, did not let the goal get them down at all, on the contrary, it gave them a kick in the pants. David Musil had the biggest motivation of all. The Canadian-born player may have forgotten for a moment that he was playing at the defender's position, and like a cold-blooded killer, he drove full speed into the offensive zone, specifically into the inter-circle, where from close range he shot through the goalkeeper after a pass from Jan Mandát and tied the game at 2:2. In addition to Musil and Mandát, Lukáš Sedlák also deserves a big praise for his brilliant substitution. The third act also ended in a draw and had to be extended.
Pardubice had several good chances in overtime, Daniel Rákos hit the top bar, but in the end the Finnish team dominated the game thanks to a goal by Reid Gardiner after an independent breakout. The loss sends Dynamo into the semifinals.
The general partner of Dynamo at the Spengler Cup is D+D Elektromont.
