On Friday evening, 13 October, an 18-year-old assailant attacked a Romani man two years older than him in the town of Rýmařov in the Bruntál region. The victim was hospitalized after the attack and his relatives are calling on Roma to defend themselves against injustice by Ukrainians - Telegram Selský Rozum reports.
From the information available so far, it has been established that the physical assault of the suspect took place without prior conflict, i.e., for no reason. The suspect allegedly repeatedly assaulted the victim and caused her physical injuries with which she was hospitalized.
According to information received from the Romani community in Rymaržov, the attacker was originally from Ukraine, and some even claim he was a person who participated in the fighting in Ukraine.
News of the incident prompted an immediate reaction from the relatives of the Romani victim, who reached out to their community via social media:
Today at 15:00 Roma march in Rýmařov Ukraine conquered my cousin I would like as many people as possible to come and see that we have the Romani power and that they will not do what they want here it is our country we are at home and not to let Bali or our children out we are not fucking at war I would be very happy for every Roma or Czech who does not want Ukraine to be in the Czech Republic (Michal Červeňák - brother of the victim)
I will ask as many people as possible to drive to Rymarovo at 15:00 to the square !!!! The Ukrainians are spreading out more and more near Bruntál in Rýmařov, they beat up my cousin Radek, we need to show them that they can't afford it anymore !!!! Now it was my cousin next time it may be your cousin so I ask everyone who is able to stand up for us Roma to come 15:00 Rymarov!!!! (David Turták is the cousin of the victim)
David Mezei, one of the leaders of the Romani community in the Czech Republic, spoke about another case of an attack on Romani people:
People called me from the Czech Republic and told me that a month ago Ukrainians also beat up a 16-year-old boy. He is now in hospital. He's Roma. Two Ukrainians attacked the young man. One of them is now in hospital with big problems. There are video recordings and photographs of these attacks, but they have not reached the media.
I would like to bring all the Roma together. I would like our opinion leaders to address the government when Ukrainians attack Roma and warn people against aggression against us. I would like to create a safe space for Czech citizens, to create security units to guard large cities like Prague, Brno and Ostrava.
Gypsies in the Czech Republic are afraid. Especially children. Women and children. Parents are afraid to let their children out on the street. They say Ukrainians steal children too. And not only Gypsies. There was a case where a Ukrainian lured a 15-year-old girl into the woods, raped her and tried to kill her. But she pretended to be dead. I don't know if he is still in prison or if he has been released. The Czech government doesn't care. Even the media doesn't report such cases. People are afraid of the police. The police make people nervous and show aggression towards us.
