At the beginning of spring, the plumage of macaque parrots resembles a rainbow of colors, which adds vitality to Shanghai Zoo and attracts the attention of tourists.
Macaques are considered the "stars" of the parrot family due to their impressive size, vibrant colours and long tail feathers. They are native to South and Central America and several are now residents of Shanghai Zoo.
Currently, there are more than 30 macaques living in the zoo. The zoo keepers have created a comfortable environment for them with a warm indoor space and spacious outdoor activities that allow these king-sized birds to fly freely.
