Sean Baker made history when his film Anora, which won the Palme d'Or, won five Academy Awards, including Best Picture, Best Director and Best Actress. Here's everything you need to know about the awards ceremony, with all the winners.
The 97th annual Academy Awards have delivered their verdict and after an awards race that was truly chaotic and unpredictable, last year's Palme d'Or winner reigned supreme Anora.
The film won a total of five Oscars (out of six nominations), beating out other favorites like Brutalist, Sinful people a Emilia Pérez and became the best picture. And there was no white smoke in the case of the film Conclavewhich took home only one Oscar - for Best Adapted Screenplay.
Known for his daring and independent filmmaking, director Sean Baker made history by personally accepting four Oscars - for Best Picture, Best Director, Best Original Screenplay and Best Editing - becoming the first person ever to win four Oscars for one film in one night.
The only other person to ever win four Oscars in one night was Walt Disney in 1952, but his wins were for separate projects.
Accepting the award for Best Director, Baker launched into his "battle cry," urging people to support endangered independent cinemas and passionately expressing his love for "a shared experience you can't get at home".
"Please try watching movies in the theater." Baker said.
Anora She also won the Best Actress award for Mikey Madison, who beat out the favored Demi Moore (Essence). It was the first nomination for Madison and the 25-year-old actress became the ninth youngest woman to win the award.
