Ringo Starr, the former Beatles drummer, has made a joy of his years as a country music lover and, together with producer and songwriter T-Bone Burnett, has released Look Up, an album that is all in that style. He has brought in sibling girl duo Larkin Poe and singer and fiddler Alison Krauss, known for her work with Robert Plant, as guests.
On the album cover, Ringo poses with a Stetson, the symbol of his favourite American music. He is wearing dark glasses, looking deadly serious, yet one cannot help but smile when looking at him. Ringo was already a stone-faced clown in the Beatles' days, see his roles in the films "A Hard Day's Work" and "Help!".
Within the band he had a clearly defined role as a drummer, an occasional singer who inspired sympathy with his endearing simplicity of intonation and clumsiness. On the solo track, Ringo is living his dreams and doing pretty much whatever he wants with whomever he wants, which is of course perfectly fine.
