The Phenomenon of Music CDs with Recordings of Bedřich Smetana's Works
The fame of Bedřich Smetana's personality was enhanced in the 20th century by the development of the recording of music on sound carriers and, due to the nature of music that does not need an interpreter, their gradual spread all over the world. This made it possible to listen to the music not only on concert stages but also, and repeatedly, in the home. Music carriers therefore became a very popular way to give a gift to a loved one, but they also brought about a new kind of collecting, in which people were able to directly compare recordings of the same song made by different performers. The record industry, as a newly emerging area of commerce, also brought another value, namely artistic value. The exhibition presents the phenomenon of music media with recordings of Bedřich Smetana's works, focusing on world-famous performers, conductors and musical ensembles. It will also present cover design that mirrored artistic trends and contemporary taste at home and abroad.
