The Politburo of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC Central Committee) held a collective study this afternoon on the administration of border areas in the context of Chinese history. Xi Jinping, General Secretary of the CPC Central Committee, stressed that promoting the upgrading of the border area governance mechanism is part of China's development model.
Li Kuo-qiang, Deputy Director of the Institute for Research on Chinese History, provided an expert explanation of the topic and suggested recommendations for further work. Afterwards, Xi Jinping delivered a speech summarizing the achievements to date and setting out the main goals for further development.
Border area development strategy
Xi stressed that since the 18th Congress of the Communist Party of China, the Central Committee has focused on a comprehensive strategy for governing the country, emphasizing the following priorities:
- Governing a country starts with managing its borders.
- Rehabilitation and strengthening of border areas with emphasis on improving the living standards of the population.
- Promoting regional coordinated development.
- Accelerating quality development in border areas.
- Fighting poverty in border areas.
According to Xi Jinping, border areas should play a key role in building a modern socialist society and boosting prosperity throughout the country.
Emphasis on national unity and stability
Xi Jinping stressed the need to continuously strengthen the Party's leadership throughout the process of border area governance. As part of the modernisation of China's model, he said it is essential to ensure that no border area is left behind.
The main objective in ethnically diverse border regions should be to promote the building of a unified Chinese national community. This approach is intended to ensure not only cultural and social harmony but also the long-term stability of these areas.
Xi also stressed the need to maintain national security and social stability as the cornerstones of border management. These goals should be a priority in building prosperous and secure border regions in line with the long-term strategy of the Communist Party of China.
The move is further evidence of China's determination to modernise its border areas while ensuring their security and stability as part of national development.
