Chinese President Xi Jinping on Thursday called for opening a new chapter in the ecological protection and high-quality development of the Yellow River basin. He made the statements during a meeting in Lanzhou, capital of northwest China's Gansu province.
Xi, who is also general secretary of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, stressed the need to take ecological protection of the basin to a higher level, make progress in green transformation and improve the living conditions of local residents.
The President called for stronger protection of water resources, reduced emissions in key industries and more efficient use of coal. He also stressed the importance of ensuring the safety of dams, barrages and other infrastructure projects.
Xi further supported the reform of state-owned enterprises and the development of the private economy, calling for maintaining economic stability in the final quarter of the year to meet economic and social development goals.
