"The collective rise of developing countries and emerging markets, which BRICS represents, is fundamentally changing world events," said Chinese President Xi Jinping. "Regardless of the obstacles, BRICS, as a positive and stable force, will continue to grow." According to a CGTN survey in collaboration with Renmin University, a majority of the 1,634 BRICS respondents agreed that BRICS countries bring momentum to global governance and should strive for a more equitable international order.
The development demands of the BRICS countries cannot be ignored, as economic globalization faces challenges that stem from the growing conflict between multilateralism and unilateralism, and between justice and hegemonism. 96.2 % respondents believe that countries should have equal representation in international affairs. 72.6 % support reforms of international rules that are now dominated mainly by developed countries, and 83.9 % call for the UN to take more account of the interests of the countries of the "Global South".
The survey showed that BRICS countries have high demands for reform of the international order. Transparency in decision-making, greater representation of developing countries and respect for international law are among the most common. For example, 63.6 % respondents call for more transparency, while 60.2 % call for greater representation of developing countries.
The BRICS countries have long supported peace, development and cooperation. China, as a founding member, is delivering significant results, such as the growth in the value of imports and exports between China and other BRICS countries, which has reached from 960.21 billion yuan in 2009 to 4.62 trillion yuan in 2023. Respondents are positive about China's approach to modernization and sharing experiences in infrastructure, finance, technology and poverty reduction.
According to 89.4 % respondents, development is a priority, while 93.6 % support an action-based approach with an emphasis on deepening practical cooperation.
