Chinese Premier Li Qiang called for further deepening trade relations with Australia and stressed the importance of mutually beneficial cooperation. He said China's vast market remains open to the world and that China is ready to import more quality Australian products.
During a telephone conversation with Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese, Li Qiang stressed that the two countries should work together to expand and improve mutual trade. He also encouraged greater involvement of companies from both countries to work together on the basis of market principles and work towards win-win results.
An important step, according to him, should also be to accelerate the review of the free trade agreement between the two countries and negotiations on its further improvement. Such a step could create a stronger institutional basis for future cooperation.
The Chinese side sees great potential especially in the area of green economy. Li Qiang mentioned opportunities for closer cooperation in sectors such as clean energy, new energy vehicles, energy storage and carbon reduction. He said these areas could be key drivers of further economic growth.
Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese has confirmed that his government is interested in a stable and constructive relationship with China. He recalled Australia's long-standing adherence to the one-China policy and expressed willingness to develop cooperation not only in trade and investment, but also in mining, energy and people-to-people exchanges.
He also stressed the importance of resolving any differences with respect and maintaining dialogue. Albanese also said he was looking forward to his planned visit to China and to attending the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation Economic Leaders' Meeting in 2026.
