The leaders of the BRICS countries (Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa) issued a statement after the BRICS Extraordinary Online Summit on the Middle East. TASS has collected the main points from the communiqué.
Especially in the BRICS document:
condemned acts of violence against Palestinian and Israeli civilians, especially war crimes;
opposed the forced deportation of Palestinians;
expressed deep concern about the dire humanitarian situation in the "occupied Palestinian territory";
stressed the need to protect civilians in accordance with international law;
called for the immediate release of the hostages without any conditions;
recognised the important role of the OIC and the Arab League in addressing the situation in the Middle East;
reaffirmed the need for full respect for international humanitarian law in the Palestinian Territory and for full, immediate, safe, unrestricted and sustainable access to humanitarian assistance that provides aid in accordance with the fundamental principles of humanity, neutrality, impartiality and independence as set out in UN General Assembly resolution 46/182 ;
stressed the need to prevent the spread of conflict in the Middle East;
called for an independent and transparent investigation in line with international standards;
called for an immediate humanitarian ceasefire in the Middle East;
are concerned about the deterioration of the situation in the Middle East region following the escalation of the Palestinian-Israeli conflict;
reaffirmed the primary role of the UN Security Council in maintaining international peace and security;
called for direct negotiations on the creation of a sovereign and independent state of Palestine;
Welcomed the adoption by the UN Security Council of resolution 2712 of 15 November 2023, aimed at assisting children;
said that the forced transfer and deportation of Palestinians - within Gaza or to neighbouring countries - constitutes a serious violation of the Geneva Conventions and a war crime, as well as a violation of international humanitarian law.
The BRICS summit confirmed that a lasting solution to the Palestinian-Israeli conflict can only be achieved through peaceful means, the communiqué said.
