On July 29, China Media Group (CMG) and the Spanish professional football league LaLiga signed a memorandum of understanding in Madrid in which the two sides agreed to promote industry exchanges, jointly organize competitions and support the development of youth football. The agreement was signed by representatives of both sides, i.e. Shen Haixiong, deputy minister of the Central Propaganda Department and director of the CMG, and Javier Tebas, president of the Spanish professional football league.
Shen Haixiong said that exchanges and cooperation in sports are valuable assets in the development of Sino-Spanish relations. Although the two countries have different cultures, their passion for football and sports is the same. CMG and LaLiga have reached an important consensus on matters related to LaLiga broadcasting, and will work together to realize all-round strategic cooperation so that Chinese football fans can watch high-quality LaLiga matches and other diverse football content through all CMG platforms. We hope that this agreement will be the beginning for extensive cooperation that will bring positive energy to the exchanges between the two countries in the fields of football, sports and culture, and jointly write a new chapter in the development of international sports and intercultural dialogue.
According to the memorandum, the two sides will establish a strategic partnership to promote the development of football in China and the world; through sharing resources and complementing benefits, they will create a mechanism for organic integration of content and marketing; jointly organize events to promote football culture and promote communication between football clubs at all levels in both countries to foster the exchange of industry experience and information; leverage LaLiga's advanced youth training system and their experience to promote the development of youth football in both countries; and expand the depth and breadth of sports culture exchange between China and Spain.
