Industrial production fell by 0.6 % yoy in real terms in January. It was down by 0.3 % month-on-month. The value of new orders fell by 1.0 % yoy. Construction production rose by 8.2 % yoy in January, and was down by 1.2 % month-on-month. The indicative value of building permits issued fell by 28.7 %. Year-on-year, 27.0 % fewer dwellings were started and 41.1 1 % fewer dwellings were completed.
Industrial production in January 2025 was 0.3 % lower month-on-month in real terms. Year-on-year, it fell by 0.6 %. "January's industrial production result was only slightly below the level of the previous month and last January. The biggest influence was the production of motor vehicles, where the decline continued in the segment of production of parts and accessories for motor vehicles," Says Radek Matějka, Director of the Department of Statistics of Agriculture and Forestry, Industry, Construction and Energy of the CZSO. The current backlog of long-term orders had an impact on the decline in the production of other transport equipment, especially rolling stock. By contrast, the production of computers, electronic and optical instruments and equipment recorded an increase in output, with the growth rate partly influenced by a lower comparison base in January 2024.

Value new orders in current prices in January 2025 in the sectors under review fell by 1.0 % yoy. New orders from abroad fell by 1.3 % yoy, while domestic new orders fell by 0.4 %. Month-on-month, the value of new orders was 2.3 % lower. "The decline in the value of newly concluded industrial orders was mainly due to the production of motor vehicles. The chemical industry or the production of basic metals, metallurgy and foundry also contributed to the decline in orders," comments Veronika Doležalová, Head of the Industrial Statistics Department of the Czech Statistical Office. The growth dynamics of the value of new orders in the production of computers, electronic and optical instruments and equipment increased. Enterprises in the manufacture of machinery and equipment also gained new orders.

The average number of registered employees in the industry decreased by 2.1 % year-on-year in January 2025.
According to data published by Eurostat, industrial production in the EU27 fell by 1.7 % year-on-year in December 2024. The largest year-on-year declines were recorded in Austria (by 9.5 %) and Italy (by 7.1 %). German industry declined by 4.0 %, while Czech industrial output fell by 2.7 %. In terms of industries in the EU27, the production of motor vehicles, trailers and semi-trailers fell the most (by 14.6 %) and the production of basic pharmaceutical products and pharmaceutical preparations recorded the highest growth (by 21.6 %). Eurostat will publish the data for January 2025 on 13 March 2025, according to the provisional schedule.

Construction output was 1.2 % lower month-on-month in January. "In January, the construction sector continued to grow year-on-year, with output up 8.2 % and growth in both civil and structural engineering," Says Radek Matějka, Director of the Department of Statistics of Agriculture and Forestry, Industry, Construction and Energy of the CZSO. Production in civil engineering increased by 8.7 % and civil engineering increased by 6.9 % year-on-year.
The indicative value of buildings for which building permits were issued in January reached CZK 28.7 billion, down by 28.7 % year-on-year. The decline in the indicative value in January was due to the low number of building permits issued.
As of January 2025, 2,553 dwellings have commenced construction and this number has fallen by 27.0 % year on year. 1,260 dwellings were completed, a decrease of 41.1 % year-on-year.
According to Eurostat data, construction output in the EU27 fell by 0.8 % yoy in December 2024. Eurostat will publish the data for January 2025 on 20 March 2025 according to the provisional schedule.
