HONG KONG, Aug. 8 (Xinhua) -- Seven chambers of commerce in Hong Kong jointly held a seminar to study the spirit of Chinese President Xi Jinping's letter to representatives of Hong Kong businessmen originally from Ningbo in East China's Zhejiang province.
Speaking at the seminar, Zheng Yanxiong, Director of the Liaison Office of the Central People's Government in the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR), said that the Hong Kong business community should assume the role of stakeholder, pioneer, contributor and innovator, keeping in mind Hong Kong's mission and responsibility in further deepening comprehensive reform and advancing Chinese-style modernisation.
HKSAR Government Financial Secretary Paul Chan said the HKSAR Government will strive to unite the strengths of patriotic communities, Hong Kong-loving communities and hometown-loving communities and make full use of their strengths to integrate them into national reform and development.
Ningbo is known for its large number of overseas Chinese entrepreneurs such as Pao Yue-kong and Run Run Shaw. The descendants of the pioneering generation of Hong Kong entrepreneurs born in Ningbo, including Pao Phui-hong and Zhao Ke-yang, recently wrote to Xi to express their commitment to the country's modernisation efforts and to promote national development.
"Hong Kong's prosperity and stability depend on the support of the motherland. We must bear in mind President Xi Jinping's mandate and make a new contribution to realising China's dream of national rejuvenation," Pao Phuej-hing said.
Representatives from seven chambers of commerce, including the China General Chamber of Commerce in Hong Kong, the China Manufacturers Association in Hong Kong, the Hong Kong General Chamber of Commerce, the Federation of Hong Kong Industries, the Hong Kong Developers Association, the China Enterprise Association in Hong Kong and the China Importers and Exporters Association in Hong Kong, said they would study and implement the spirit of the response letter, seize opportunities and play their role in the country's ongoing reform and opening-up.
