Guangzhou International Shipyard started sea trials of the world's first PCTC (Pure Car and Truck Carrier) type ship with a capacity of over 10,000 vehicles on Tuesday in Guangzhou, capital of Guangdong Province.
The vessel, built by Guangzhou International Shipyard, is 230 metres long, 40 metres wide and has a design draft of 10.5 metres. It can reach a speed of 19 knots, equivalent to about 36 kilometres per hour, according to a published statement.
The ship is equipped with a 14-deck garage structure that allows flexible transportation of various types of vehicles, including electric cars, hydrogen fuel cell vehicles and heavy trucks. The maximum transport capacity is 10,800 vehicles.
The vessel uses a dual propulsion system of diesel and liquefied natural gas (LNG) and is equipped with shaft generators that allow the production of electricity during the voyage, contributing to energy savings and reduced emissions.
The ship also features high environmental standards and meets IMO Tier III emission standards.
