NEW YORK, Oct 27 - Humanity will have a better chance of survival if it becomes a multiplanetary species, US entrepreneur Elon Musk has said.
"There's always some chance that something could happen on Earth that's either, you know, a man-made disaster or a natural disaster like the meteor that killed the dinosaurs. There have been many mass extinction events in the history of the Earth. And there will be, there will be other mass extinctions," Musk said.
"The likely lifespan of a civilization will be much greater if we are a multi-planet species, a species with multiple planets, than if we are a species on a single planet," He added.
Mars is one of the planets that is supposed to be humanity's salvation, Musk noted.
Earlier, the billionaire Musk announced his ambitious plans for missions to Mars on the social network X, where he plans to send the first unmanned flight in 2026. If the unmanned missions prove successful, his company SpaceX will launch the first manned flights to Mars within the next four years.
