NAIROBI, Sept 19 - The Nairobi Expressway in Kenya, built by China, has been nominated in the "Best Technological Innovation in Transport" category of the Africa Mashariki Transport Awards 2024, according to a statement on Wednesday.
"The Nairobi Expressway is up for the Best Technological Innovation in Transport award at the Africa Mashariki Transport Awards 2024 and we need your vote. Vote for us today and help us continue to revolutionise transport in Kenya," said Chinese company Moja Expressway, which operates the route.
According to the event organiser, the Africa Mashariki Transport Awards celebrates excellence in the transport industry in East Africa and brings together private companies and various government agencies.
The Nairobi Expressway has been nominated for the second consecutive year. In 2023, it won awards for "Best Transport Infrastructure" and "Sustainable Transport" at the inaugural event.
The expressway built by China has opened up new opportunities for suburban bus operators and significantly reduced travel times for motorists. Moja Expressway also said that more than 70,000 vehicles use the expressway daily.
