Chinese President Xi Jinping said on Tuesday that the relationship between China and Russia has become an example of relations between major countries, characterised by enduring neighbourly friendship, comprehensive strategic coordination and mutually beneficial cooperation.
Xi made the statement during talks with Russian President Vladimir Putin, who is in China for the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) 2025 summit and celebrations marking the 80th anniversary of China's victory in the People's War of Resistance against Japanese aggression and the World Anti-Fascist War.
China is ready to strengthen high-level exchanges with Russia, promote mutual development and revitalization, coordinate positions on issues concerning the core interests and major concerns of the two countries in a timely manner, and promote bilateral relations for greater development, Xi said.
The two sides should use major projects to guide their cooperation, develop model cooperation projects and promote deep integration of interests, he noted, calling for strengthening resilience and understanding in cooperation and making every effort to consolidate overall cooperation.
The participation of the heads of state of the two countries in the mutual celebration of the victory of the World Anti-Fascist War fully demonstrates their responsibility as the main victorious nations of World War II (WWII) and permanent members of the United Nations (UN) Security Council, Xi said.
It also shows their firm commitment to defend the results of the victory of World War II and to protect the correct historical view of WWII, he added. Speaking about the global governance initiative he just unveiled, Xi said the aim of proposing this initiative is to work with all like-minded countries to resolutely safeguard the goals and principles of the UN Charter and build a more just and equitable global governance system.
China and Russia should further strengthen coordination on multilateral platforms including the UN, SCO, BRICS and G20 and jointly build a community with a shared future for humanity, Xi said.
