Today's GDP report shows how far we have come since I took office - from the worst economic crisis since the Great Depression to the strongest economy in the world. Since I took office, the economy has grown by 12.6 %, we have the lowest average unemployment rate in 50 years, 16 million jobs have been created, and incomes have grown $4,000 more than inflation. Critics thought we would need a recession to reduce inflation, instead we grew at an average of 3 % per year while inflation fell to just before the pandemic.
We must continue to build on this progress. Instead, Republicans in Congress are proposing across-the-board tariffs that would cost families almost USD 4 000 a year, reignite inflation and destroy hundreds of thousands of jobs. The Vice President and I are fighting to lower the cost of everyday goods - from housing and food to health care and child care - while Republicans are fighting for more tax breaks for the wealthy and big corporations. The best way to grow the economy is from the middle out and from the bottom up, not the top down.
