In the first month of this year, 14 fewer % passenger cars rolled off the lines of domestic manufacturers year-on-year, namely 113,826 units. The production of motorcycles also recorded lower production figures, with 47 units produced. On the other hand, the production of buses showed an increase of almost 50 percent, with a total of 426 units completed. Electric vehicles accounted for 14 % of total production, with 11,458 pure electric and 4,490 plug-in hybrid vehicles produced.
"The slower production of some domestic car manufacturers correlates with a decline in new car registrations in the EU, especially in our main export markets such as Germany, France and Italy. In the context of other current competitiveness challenges, it is therefore essential that Europe does not continue with business as usual and once again become overwhelmed by an endless series of regulations or the creation of strategies without concrete measures to implement. I therefore want to believe that the proposals of the Czech car industry, made at the recent thematic meeting of the European Commission on strengthening the value chain and production in the European car industry, will be taken into account in the forthcoming Automotive Action Plan. We need to start with simple, yet crucial steps - before introducing further regulations, let us first properly implement those that have already been approved and thoroughly assess their impact on the industry, markets and customers. For example, eliminating ineffective fines and revising CO2 at LDV and HDV," Says Zdeněk Petzl, Executive Director of the Automotive Industry Association.

Passenger vehicles
In January, a total of 113,826 passenger vehicles were produced in the Czech Republic, i.e. 14 % less than in the first month of last year. At the beginning of the year, 15 917 electric vehicles were produced and their share in domestic car production reached 14 %. Of these, a total of 11,427 were battery BEVs and 4,490 plug-in hybrid PHEVs. The number of electric vehicles thus recorded an increase of more than 70% year-on-year in January.
Škoda Auto, the largest domestic carmaker, produced 72,350 passenger cars (-11.7 %) in its domestic plants in the first month. Škoda produced 11,463 electric cars, i.e. battery BEVs and plug-in hybrid PHEVs, i.e. 15.8 % of the brand's total domestic production. Of these, 9,067 were battery BEVs and 2,396 were plug-in hybrids. The numbers of electric vehicles produced by the Mladá Boleslav-based carmaker and the overall increase in the number of vehicles produced in this segment also reflect the start of series production of the new Elroq model.
Hyundai's Nosovice plant completed a total of 21,240 vehicles in January, 30 fewer %s than in the same period last year. Of the total number of vehicles, 2,360 had pure electric and 2,094 had plug-in hybrid drive. Overall, electric vehicles thus accounted for over 20 % of the brand's domestic production.
Cologne-based Toyota, on the other hand, achieved higher year-on-year production figures, even with the highest January result in five years. A total of 20,236 cars were produced, 1.3 % more than in January 2024. The Yaris HEV hybrid accounted for more than 55 % of production.

Buses
Overall production in the bus segment was very good in the first month. In January 2025, 135 more buses were produced at domestic plants than in the same month last year. The total production value reached 426 buses and increased by 46.4 % year-on-year.
Iveco CR in Vysoké Mýto produced 418 buses, i.e. 50 % more than in the same period last year. In the first month of this year, SOR Libchavy produced a total of 7 buses and KHMC 1 minibus.
The pure battery bus segment recorded a year-on-year increase, with a total of 31 buses produced in January - 30 of which were manufactured by Iveco CR and 1 by SOR Libchavy.

Motorcycles
Traditional motorcycle manufacturer Jawa Moto reported a year-on-year decline in January production. In the first month, a total of 47 motorcycles (-37.3 %) rolled off the domestic brand's production line, down by 28 motorcycles in absolute terms year-on-year.
