Since it has been proven that the Chinese government heavily subsidises the production of electric cars and thus artificially lowers their price, I consider it logical and correct that EU Member States have approved the possibility of imposing tariffs on Chinese electric cars. This is one of the many steps that fall within the strategy of the Draghi report. That is why I also welcome what President von der Leyen said about her new cabinet taking on board the recommendations contained in this report.
Draghi's report, in my view, correctly identifies the main challenges we face as Europe. He is clear that, if we are to keep up with China and the world, there must be an increase in investment, a change in our energy and innovation policy, and at the same time, we must defend ourselves against unfair practices.
Note: The final imposition of tariffs is yet to take place, but the approval of the European Commission's proposal by the Member States is the last major step in the process.
