The most significant factor influencing the labour market in September is the arrival of fresh school graduates, with 3,023 of them in September alone. The Labour Office records a total of 14,217 graduates, of whom 13 % are university graduates. The great news is that the Labour Office is succeeding in placing more and more people in the market - last month the number was a record 31,845, the highest in the last 31 years, i.e. in the entire time of tracking this indicator.
"It is very positive news that the number of people we are succeeding in placing on the labour market is growing. The Job Centre has found jobs for a record number of people this year, which is a great trend. In this context, it is worth mentioning that one of the key instruments of active employment policy is the possibility of retraining, which the state offers to employees so that they can find a job on the labour market. Unemployment in our country rose slightly in September, but this is to be expected given that graduates have entered the register," says the Minister of Labour and Social Affairs Marian Jurečka (KDU-ČSL).
"Unemployment is still in the range between 3.5 and 4 %, specifically for September it is 3.9 %.
The number of applicants remains higher than the number of open places. However, the number of job seekers placed is an all-time high. More than 31,800 people gained new jobs with the help of the Job Centre in September, the highest number since the statistics began to be tracked in 1993.
In the first three quarters, we have helped more than 210,000 people in this way, and this is a really significant increase compared to last year's 113,000 (97,600 to be precise). The number of retraining is also growing significantly, with 30,000 people starting retraining in the first three quarters, and this is 11,400 more than last year." describes the Director General of the Labour Office of the Czech Republic Daniel Kristof.

In September 2024, the Czech Labour Office (ÚP ČR) registered 52 806 people newly registered.
In the regional comparison, the share of unemployed persons increased month-on-month in eight regions.
In absolute value the highest number of job seekers in the Moravian-Silesian and Central Bohemian regions. Compared to the previous month slightly the number of job vacancies has increased locationsto 264 654 (263 247 in August).
A large number of refugees in the Czech Republic work, mostly women
According to the Labour Office of the Czech Republic, at the end of September 2024 there were a total of 143 360 valid employment relationships concluded with persons from Ukraine granted temporary protection (this is a qualified estimate). Women predominated in these employment relationships, with 88,750 (i.e. approximately 62 % employment relationships). Most of them were realized in the Central Bohemia Region (25 570), in Prague (22 638) and in the Pilsen Region (19 288). Most often people with temporary protection work as construction, production and transport helpers or as assemblers of products and equipment, and as operators of stationary machinery and equipment.
In certain areas, employers gained much-needed staff.
At the end of September, the ÚP ČR recorded a total of 15 619 citizens of Ukraine with temporary protection
(in August 15 430 persons) who have applied for inclusion in the register of jobseekers (2,111 jobseekers, 1,911 jobseekers in August) or
on job placement (13,508 jobseekers, 13,519 jobseekers in August
about employment). Of the total number of jobseekers, citizens of Ukraine with temporary protection accounted for 5.4 % (4.7 % in August). Since the outbreak of the war in Ukraine until 30 September 2024, a total of 59 949 (58 555 by August) of persons with temporary protection.
One of the most common barriers to the exercise of skilled professions is the language barrier for this group of clients. The Labour Office of the Czech Republic therefore offers citizens from Ukraine with temporary protection, among other things, assistance with financing retraining courses in Czech language for foreigners, where a total of 15 580 citizens from Ukraine with temporary protection have entered so far (since the outbreak of the conflict in Ukraine) and 12 410 of them have graduated. In September 2024, 935 citizens from Ukraine with temporary protection started the course (407 in August, 526 in July, 618 in June, 797 in May, 849 in April, 926 in March, 903 in February and 544 in January) and 377 of them successfully completed the retraining in this month.
Except Prague, unemployment increased in all regions and in 5/6 districts
Highest share of unemployed persons (share of jobseekers aged 15-64 who are reachable) in September was in the Ústí nad Labem Region (6.2 %) and the Moravian-Silesian Region (5.6 %).These regions had the highest share of unemployed persons in the same period last year. On the contrary lowest unemployment was in Prague (2.9 %) and in the Vysočina and Pilsen regions (3.0 %). Year-on-year, the situation has changed the most in Olomouc and Moravian-Silesian Region, where the share of unemployed persons increased by 0.7 percentage point compared to September 2023. At the district level, the differences are even more pronounced. Lowest unemployment was at the end of September in the districts of Praha-východ (1.5 %), Praha-západ (1.7 %), Plzeň-jih (2.1 %), Rychnov nad Kněžnou (2.2 %) and Pelhřimov (2.3 %). On the other hand highest proportion of unemployed Most (8.6 %), Karviná (8.4 %), Chomutov (7.1 %) and Bruntál (6.9 %).
Women account for almost 55 % of unemployment, the average age of the unemployed is 42 years
Of the total number of registered jobseekers 158 941 women, these thus formed 54.6 % of the total number of jobseekers. The share of unemployed men increased to 3.4% and the share of unemployed women remained at 4.3 %.
Average age unemployed in September 42.1 years, last year it was 42.3 years. The age structure of job seekers has not changed significantly over the last five years. And even over the past 12 months there have been only slight changes.
The share of unemployed persons in the age group increased year-on-year in September up to 29 years old by 0.5 percentage points and in the category 50 plus by 0.1 percentage point. As of 30 September 2024, there were a total of 101 999 applicants over 50 years of age and made up 35.1 % of the total number of unemployed.
In terms of educational level, jobseekers were most often unemployed with lower qualifications, especially apprenticeships without a high school diploma and with primary education.
In the past month, job seekers 37 676 persons with disabilities (PWD) - 13.0 % of the total number of unemployed. Employers offered them a total of 10 922 vacancies. The most common positions were for security guards, cleaners and domestic helpers or assembly workers.
Changes in the structure of the unemployed by educational level show that the the highest year-on-year increase occurred in the case of apprentices registered applicants (by 8 580) and for applicants with secondary education (by 7 509). As regards the breakdown by professions, at the end of September there were in the records of the ÚP ČR the most auxiliary and unskilled workersand that is 83 359.
At the end of September, the ÚP ČR recorded a total of 19 294 adolescents (aged 15-18) and school leavers of all levels of education. Month-on-month, this is an increase of 6 602 people, and year-on-year, an increase of 2 400 people. They accounted for 6.6 % of total unemployment (August - 4.4 %, September 2023 - 6.4 %). Within this category graduates and teenagers recorded by the Labour Office of the Czech Republic in total 14 217 graduates and total 5115 juveniles (August - 4,526, September 2023 - 4,444), juveniles were 1.8 % of the total number of jobseekers. As with other groups of job seekers at risk of long-term unemployment, the ÚP ČR pays increased attention to these clients. Candidates are on the register for an average of 487 days
The structure of jobseekers according to the length of time they have been registered with the Office of the Labour Office of the Czech Republic has changed over the past 12 months. In a year-on-year comparison, the share of those who have been unemployed for less than three months in the total number of unemployed fell by 0.7 percentage point to 33.6 %. This is a total of 97 603 persons. In contrast, the share of jobseekers who have been registered for more than 12 months increased by 1 percentage point to 31.3 % (91 156 persons). Average length of registration compared to August decreased by 10 days to 487 days.
In September, the ÚP managed to find employment for 31,845 job seekers - the highest number since at least 1993
During September, the Labour Office of the Czech Republic 52 806 people have newly registered. This is a month-on-month increase of 17 940 persons (51.5 %) and a year-on-year increase of 5 028 persons (10.5 %). Most new of the unemployed Moravian-Silesian (7187) and Central Bohemia (6576). Less than a third of registered jobseekers receive unemployment support
Unemployment benefits were received in September 84 167 people, which represents 28.9 % of all jobseekers (August 2024 - 30.9 %, September 2023 - 27.9 %).The number of jobseekers eligible for unemployment benefits increased by 10,812 persons year-on-year. Jobseekers on average received 11 593 Kč per month (August - 11 567 CZK). Unemployment support up to 4500 CZK received 3044 (3,6 %) persons.
These are mainly clients who have come to the registration of the Office of the Czech Republic, e.g. after the end of parental leave, were caring for a loved one or were temporarily unable to work after the end of gainful employment. Maximum amount of aidthat is to say 24 608 Kč, then in September the ÚP ČR paid 4237 (5.0 %) to job seekers.
In September 2024, according to preliminary data, the ÚP paid out a total of CZK 1 121 183 thousand in unemployment benefits and retraining. CZK 1,065,133 thousand in August 2024.
Job vacancies have increased again, employers are looking for the most people in Prague and the Central Bohemia Region
At the end of the previous month, employers offered a total of 264 654 vacancies, 1,407 more than in August and 17,341 less than a year ago (a decrease of 6 %). On average, there are approximately 1.1 job seekers per vacancy in the Czech Republic. Of these, the highest numbers were in the districts of Karviná (10.2), Bruntál (6.2), Děčín (5.9) and Hodonín (5.6). At 73.8 % of the reported vacancies, employers are looking for candidates with primary or lower education, 68.9 % then create vacancies suitable for foreigners. Employers have according to the records of the Labour Office of the Czech Republic most often interested building construction workers, forklift truck operators and warehouse workers, assembly workers, cooks, truck and tractor-trailer drivers or cleaners. Highest demand the demand for new employees is in Prague (80,331 jobs) and in the Central Bohemian Region (51,277 jobs).
The ÚP ČR helps within the framework of the key activity, which is labour market monitoring, employers filling vacancies, as well as jobseekers with job placement. Among other things, it organises selection procedures for companies, thematic seminars or helps with retraining.
Active employment policy: over 30,000 retrained since the beginning of the year
The ÚP of the Czech Republic pays increased attention to all groups of applicants and candidates at risk of long-term unemployment. As of 30 September, a total of 14 719 jobseekers and jobseeker applicants (this is the total number of all jobseekers or jobseeker applicants who were using any AAL tool at the end of September 2024).
For example, at the end of July, there were people working as part of community service (VPP) 521 people. Employment 5 915 people were supported with funding under the Dedicated Socially Useful Jobs (SUMP). For Nine employers have created completely new jobs, under which the ÚP ČR contributes to their equipment (SÚPM). 545 former jobseekers were in private business at the end of September 2024 with support obtained through the SUTP.
A commuter allowance also helps with the return to the labour market. In September 2024, the ÚP ČR supported 275 people. The ÚP also pays increased attention to persons with disabilities (PWD), who are also provided with employment support allowances. At the end of the previous month, the following were supported 314 OZP. An important retraining is a tool of the APZwhich the Labour Office of the Czech Republic uses to financially assist not only job seekers but also job applicants. As of 30 September 2024, the following had participated 5 281 persons (as of 30.9.2023 it was 2 467 people, i.e. 114 % more year-on-year). In total, since the beginning of this year, the following have started retraining 30 267 clients, of which 14 498 have been retrained under digital training funded through the National Recovery Plan.
Here the most frequently implemented retraining are Czech language courses for foreigners, computer courses and courses aimed at obtaining driving licences, including professional qualifications.
There is also interest in performance of public service. In total, the ÚP has contracted 2397 positions with its organizers, primarily municipalities, non-profit organizations, primary and kindergarten schools, and libraries. Most of them are in the Ústí nad Labem Region (882) and the Moravian-Silesian Region (549). These are not only activities to ensure the cleanliness of streets and other public spaces and greenery, but also activities that people perform during publicly accessible sporting, cultural and similar events. Last but not least, public service also takes place in the form of auxiliary activities in the provision of social care (e.g. outpatient and field social services), etc.
For public service a total of 3,281 people started in August. Public service is performed mainly by people in material need, who thus fulfil the obligation of activation and efforts to increase their income through their own work. The benefit is that, in the case of performance of more than 30 hours per month, participants also receive an increase in the minimum on which the amount of the living allowance is calculated.
