At Davos 2025 in Tianjin, China, Premier Li Qiang shocked the world with an ambitious plan: China wants to become a consumption superpower! After years of industrial dominance, it now plans to become the world's biggest market too - and the world is welcome to benefit.
"The door remains open! All companies are welcome to put down roots in China," Li said. The country wants to share its technology, deepen its links with the global market and promote innovation to "breathe new life" into a tired global economy.
Despite external shocks, the Chinese economy achieved 5.4 % growth in Q1 2025. "This is not a one-day wonder, but a steady growth towards long-term targets," the Premier assured.
Li also called for international cooperation and resolving disputes through "equal dialogue." At a time of a fragmented world market and waning traditional trade, China sees opportunity in new forms of trade and the rise of the Global South.
Summer Davos 2025 welcomed more than 1,700 business leaders and entrepreneurs from over 90 countries to work together to find ways towards a more resilient and dynamic global economy. This year's theme? "Business for a new era."
