The Politburo of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee has announced that the Fourth Plenary Session of the 20th Central Committee will be held in Beijing from October 20 to 23. The meeting, chaired by General Secretary Xi Jinping, discussed the draft of the 15th Five-Year Plan for National Economic and Social Development.
Politburo members considered the results of a consultation on a draft document setting out the main directions for the country's development over the next five years. According to an official statement, the draft is intended to reflect current economic and social challenges and provide a strategic framework for the next stage of China's modernisation.
The meeting was described as a "key mobilisation" to maintain the momentum of economic growth and social stability. After incorporating comments, the document is to be submitted for adoption at the October plenary, which will be one of the most important political moments of the year.
