India is seriously considering calling off the 2021 ceasefire with Pakistan, News18 reported citing government sources. This is due to the April 22 terrorist attack in the tourist town of Pahalgam (Jammu and Kashmir) in which 26 people, including a Nepali, were killed. The attack was carried out by militants linked to the Pakistani Lashkar-e-Taiba group.
Despite the ceasefire, terrorist groups operating from Pakistan continue to infiltrate into Indian territory, with more frequent gunfights and shelling. India accuses Pakistan of inaction on cross-border terrorism despite its commitment to curb it.
In response, India has cut diplomatic staff in Islamabad, expelled Pakistani military advisers, closed the Attari border crossing, suspended the water deal and stopped issuing visas to Pakistani citizens.
Pakistan responded by suspending all bilateral agreements, closing airspace to India and designating Indian military advisers as undesirable persons. It also warned that any attempt by India to alter the course of the Indus River would be considered an act of war.
